5 things to be mindful of when staying in a homestay

Homestays provide an ideal vacation getaway for families and group travellers. It’s a home away from home. So, it’s only natural to treat and behave as if we’re at home when staying in a homestay. You wouldn’t want your house to be trashed or vadalised, would you?

1. Things in the homestay are not your things

People tend to forget that they are staying in a homestay. Sometimes, they think they are in a hotel and can do whatever they want. Even so, it’s not an excuse to take or break things. Have some decency and take care of the things in the homestay.

2. Keep it clean

Cleanliness is very important for guests who are on a vacation. Homeowners go to great lengths to keep their homes clean and tidy. Would it be nice if guests could return the favour and not live like a pig.

3. Respect the neighbours

Homestays are located in a housing area which are homes to many other families. It’s not wrong to have gatherings and parties at the homestay. As long as it is not disturbing the neighbours, it should be fine. While your at it, you might want to invite the neighbours as well.

4. Obey the house rules

No pets allowed, no smoking, no alcohol and no non-halal food are some of the typical examples of house rules in homestays. It is there for a reason and everyone should live by it.

5. Do not waste water and electricity

This is common behaviour whenever you’re at home. You don’t leave the bathroom with the faucet on or leave the airconditioning on 24/7 even when you’re not at home, right? Turning off all water taps and electrical appliances before leaving the house not only will make the homeowner happy, Mother Nature will thank you for that as well.
